So, I found myself in downtown Baltimore, with half a day on my hands, until my flight home to London. I was armed with a roll of Fuji Velvia, and my brand new 70-200mm telephoto lens, along with my fisheye and 24-70mm lenses. I decided to walk around the town, see the local attractions and try to capture a few good shots, whilst enjoying my day. I'd flown over to the USA for 4 days over the bank holiday weekend, to hangout with a friend that I'd made, on my Antarctic marathon trip, a few months earlier. Anne had to work, as it was a Monday, and so she dropped me off, in the city centre. It was a sweltering, humid August day, and depsite walking round with a very small shoulder pack, with my alternate lenses in, it didn't take long for me to feel tired from the heat. I checked out the impressive local aquarium, but had to fight through the crowds of kids, who were also looking round. Then I checked out The USS Torsk, a WW2 diesel electric submarine, which had been responsible for at least 2 Japanese ship kills. I walked up to the local baseball team's, the Orioles, at Camden yards. A local hero, was the famous Babe Ruth had been born round the corner. I also went up the highest building in town and took in the view. It seemed like a nice enough city, and I enjoyed my day walking round. I'd seen most of the main sites a few days earlier, when we'd done a cool drinking tour in the back of a limo, as part of this scavenger hunt; an excuse to spend 3hrs drinking with your friends basically. |
